Dave Stewart (sometimes also appearing as David A. Stewart) is an award-winning English musician, songwriter and record producer, best known as one half of the Eurythmics. Prior to forming the Eurythmics, Stewart was in a short-lived folk-rock band called Longdancer which dissolved after signing to Elton John's Rocket Records. He met aspiring singer Annie Lennox in the late '70s and they formed the Tourists with guitarist Pete Coombes. The band achieved modest success with the release of three albums, but they disbanded in 1980. Stewart and Lennox continued their musical partnership and remerged as the Eurythmics.

The Eurythmics became one of the most successful and innovative duos of all time, beginning with their 1983 single "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)." They released nine albums and won numerous awards including an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist in 1984 and a GRAMMY award for Best Rock Performance in 1987. They were inducted into the UK Hall of Fame in 2005.

In addition to producing all of the Eurythmics albums, Stewart found time to produce successful albums for Aretha Franklin (Who's Zoomin' Who) and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers (Southern Accents), which were both released in 1985. Stewart won a Brit Award for Best Producer in 1986. After the Eurythmics broke up in 1990, Stewart continued producing music for Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Bob Geldof, Stevie Nicks, Jon Bon Jovi, Bryan Ferry, Neville Brothers and Joss Stone.

In 1995, Stewart released his solo debut album, Greetings From the Gutter. His solo release, The Blackbird Diaries (2011), featured collaborations with Martina McBride, Joss Stone, Colbie Caillat, and the Secret Sisters. Stewart formed a supergroup called SuperHeavy with Mick Jagger, Damian Marley, Joss Stone, and A.R. Rahman, releasing a self-titled album on September 20, 2011. Stewart's most recent solo effort, The Ringmaster General (Surfdog Records), arrived Septermber 11, 2012.

Stewart has also worked outside of music, directing numerous short films and producing an award-winning documentary called Deep Blues: A Musical Pilgrimage to the Crossroads (1991). He made his feature film directorial debut in 2000 with Honest, a black comedy about London in the late 1960s. In 2002, Steward worked with Nelson Mandela, Paul McCartney, Bono and the Edge, on the 46664 campaign which raised money to fight HIV/AIDS.
