Blitzen Trapper is a Portland, Oregon based alt country/folk band who formed in 2000. The band consists of songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Eric Earley, guitarist Erik Menteer, guitarist Marty Marquis, bassist Michael VanPelt, and drummer Brian Adrian Koch. Blitzen Trapper self-released their first three albums - Blitzen Trapper (2003), Field Rexx (2005), and Wild Mountain Nation (2007). Their notable success came in the form of “Best New Music” recognition from Pitchfork for Wild Mountain Nation and critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Spin and The Nerve. This landed the band a record deal on Sub Pop. The release of Furr in 2008, another critically acclaimed album, showed the band honing in on their distinctive roots-rock, Americana sound and was followed by The Black River Killer EP in 2009. Their next Sub Pop full length album, Destroyer of the Void, was released in 2010.
With over a decade together as a band, Blitzen Trapper has shared the stage with The Hold Steady, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Iron and Wine, Dawes, The Parson Red Heads and Wilco. In addition to their national and international touring they have also played many festival circuits including: Sasquatch festival, Coachella, Monolith, Pitchfork, SXSW, Lollapalooza and the Newport Folk Festival. Their latest album, American Goldwing, was released on Sub Pop in 2011.
