Acid Mothers Temple (a.k.a. Acid Mothers Temple and The Melting Parasio UFO) is an influential and prolific Japanese experimental-psych band featuring Kawabata Makoto, Tsuyama Atsushi, Higasgi Hiroshi and Shimora Koji. The band, led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto formed in 1995, was essentially a solo effort. In 1997, Makoto released his self-titled album and a year later he assembled a group of musicians who were also influenced by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Krautrock, and '70s progressive hard rock to tour overseas as the collective of Acid Mothers Temple. The band has released albums frequently on a number of international record labels as well as the Acid Mothers Temple Family record label, which was established in 1998. Early in their career AMT featured many musicians, often rotating as many thirty members, but by 2004 the line-up had solidified with four core members and frequent vocal guests. With over fifty ambitious releases and constant international touring, the collective has also managed to spin out numerous offshoots, including Floating Flower, Nishinihon, and Tsurbami. AMT have shared the bill with acts like Richard Youngs, Gong, and The Orb, and have collaborated with artists from the NASA computer graphics animation team, Acid Mothers Temple's latest album is The Ripper at the Heavens' Gates of Dark, released on the Riot Season label in 2011.
