Vagabonds Of The Western World [Import] (CD)
Thin Lizzy
Amoeba Review
Frankie Delmane 11/01/2010
With the third record, Thin Lizzy had realized something special. Though not exactly the perfect vision Lynott was going after, it marked a clear distinction in the band's sound, bringing them to a place of enough satisfaction to warrant the wider attention they had yet to grab. This was a push forward, as opener "Mama Nature Said" gets the band to a harder place, Eric Bell's blues slide propped front and center, the rhythm section now in a leaner, more forceful position. Lynott's vocals continued in a more laid back, soulful expression of Irish machismo, brought out best in their rendition of the Irish folk classic "Whiskey In the Jar", ultimately charting in the top forty. "The Rocker" is one of the earliest Lizzy tunes to be considered classic, as well as the face smash of "Gonna Creep Up On You." Vagabonds Of The Western World signaled to hard rock fans that Thin Lizzy were getting ready to pounce.
