05/19/2013 British pop sensation Kate Bush has long been considered one of the most eccentric recording artists in popular music. Her work is filled with dense literary allusions and obtuse wordplay. Her unique voice is extremely expressive, bordering on the theatrical. Bush’s fourth record from 1982, The Dreaming, is also her first self-produced release. She situates her songs in dramatic sonic settings, incorporating strange vocal loops, pulsing percussion, dark synths and ghostly piano. These techniques prove most effective on standout tracks like “Sat in Your Lap,” “The Dreaming” and the mesmerizing “Get Out of My House.” While not as fully realized as her next release, 1985’s brilliant Hounds of Love, The Dreaming is an underrated and wildly inventive set of songs.
