The Baron (LP)
Johnny Cash
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 05/31/2010
The Baron is the sixty-ninth LP in the wildly productive career of country-music icon Johnny Cash, released by Columbia Records in 1981. The Man in Black is strictly interested in covering other artists material, here. Several singles were released, including the title track, “The Baron,” which went to #10 on the Billboard country charts. Several others were less successful. “Mobile Bay” went to #60; the Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller-penned “The Reverend Mr. Black” only made it to #71; “Chattanooga Cit Limit Sign” also peaked at #71. The album itself did reasonably well, climbing all the way to #24, but it wasn’t a smash hit for Cash.
