That's The Way It's Gonna Be (CD)
Lee Mallory
Amoeba Review
Tiffany Anders 08/25/2010
Originally a musician who fancied the folk circuits of Greenwich Village, Lee Mallory eventually ended up working with the kings of California sunshine pop when he joined The Millennium, which featured producer extraordinaire Curt Boettcher. However, before joining the group, Lee Mallory had released a handful of singles produced by Boettcher and scored a minor hit with “That’s The Way It’s Gonna Be” (surprisingly written by politically charged folkie Phil Ochs and Bob Gibson). This collection gathers all of Mallory’s singles and demos, some of which are his self-penned tracks for The Millennium. Unlike the Curt Boettcher and Sandy Salisbury solo releases, this collection demonstrates a rougher edge than that of his bandmates, particularly on tracks like “Love At Last” and “You’ve Got Me Movin’.” Yet this collection demonstrates, just as the other members of Millennium’s solo efforts do, that there was top-notch talent within the group. Every track on this collection is memorable and is very tasty ear candy.
