"T'Ain't Nobody's Business If I Do" [Single]

Billie Holiday

Amoeba Review

Recorded live at the first annual Monterey Jazz Festival, this crystal-clear recording captures Holiday performing a vaudeville classic written by forerunner Bessie Smith’s accompanist, Everett Robins, and pianist Porter Grainger. Holiday leads the band through the first minute and a half after a jaunty opening, singing the song’s individualistic lyrics (“There ain’t nothin’ I ever do, nothin’ I ever say that folks don’t criticize me/But I’m going to do just as I want to anyway”) with her trademark sweet-and-sassy delivery before the band comes in to take it away.  Beautifully remastered from the most pristine Vinyl sources available. Billie as you’ve never heard her! Read More
