Santigold (LP)
Santogold
Amoeba Review
04/29/2008
Lying somewhere between the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and M.I.A. comes Santogold. This is the debut album from Brooklyn-based singer/MC Santi White and it is eclectic and delicious! Working with producers like Mark Ronson, Diplo and FreQ Nasty, she draws upon dancehall, rock, new wave, hip hop, pop, and anything else that pleases her. There is a lot of buzz surrounding her, but the album definitely stands up to the hype. Outstanding tracks are "L.E.S. Artistes," "Shove It" (which is so catchy despite the chorus "we think you're a joke/shine your hope where it don't shine"), and "Creator" (which most resembles M.I.A.).
