Sabotage (CD)
Black Sabbath
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 06/11/2010
Sabotage is the sixth album by Black Sabbath; it was released by Warner Bros. in July of 1975. Sabbath were still enjoying their first critical accolades in the aftermath of 1973’s Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, which blended metal and prog in a variety of inventive ways. They could have repeated themselves on Sabotage; instead, they delivered some of the most grooving, ripping songs of their career. The opener, “Hole in the Sky,” is all-time classic Sabbath, and “Symptom of the Universe” is the fundamental prototype for every thrash-metal album ever made. Surprisingly, the best thing on Sabotage might be the synth-driven piece, “Am I Going Insane (Radio),” which has moments of gurgling, Krautrock menace.
