Ralf & Florian (LP)
Kraftwerk
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 06/08/2010
Released in 1973, Kraftwerk’s third LP was Ralf and Florian; it is the thoroughly engaging transitional piece between Kraftwerk, the Krautrock Standout, and Kraftwerk, the Band That Shapes the Future of Music. Which is to say, it’s great, not genius. It’s also criminally impossible to find. The band is Florian Schneider (flutes, synthesizers, electric violin) and Ralf Hütter (electronic organ, synthesizers), and they reveal glints and glimmers of the greatness to come. Ralf and Florian continues the organic, florid pulse of the first two LPs, but you can hear them hitting the wall. Their next record, Autobahn, would pulverize the wall to dust.
