Prince of Wails was one of a slew of jazz age hot tunes written by Chicago band leader Elmer Schoebel. Louis plays lead horn throughout Henderson's recording of this but doesn't take off on a solo. Mandy was a brand new tin pan alley song that would be recorded by many jazz bands of the period. Following some hokey period effects from the brass section, Louis comes in with a blistering solo break at around 1:10, showing the band how it's done.
