Animal Collective member Noah Lennox aka Panda Bear wowed everyone with this solo venture. Though not his first solo release (it was his third), Perfect Pitch was recorded by Lennox himself using mostly samples. The album is shiny and lush, lending itself to the layered pop harmonies of The Beach Boys, while still retaining an immense amount of originality. There is nothing else that sounds like this album. Stand out tracks include "Bros", which starts with a bouncy melody and slowly morphs into an intensely rhythmic frenzy held down by acoustic guitars and ends in groans and screams. And "Good Girl/ Carrots", a twelve and half minute psychedelic pop jam that starts with a banshee beat of sampled and treated percussion and seamlessly slips into the melodic "Carrots". This is by far one of the best albums of 2007.
