Given the paucity of Mr. LaFaro's output, any archival release would be welcome. What makes this 1961 set a major archival find is the quality of the performances and the fact that it is LaFaro's only recording as a co-leader. The brash technique and telepathic interactivity that would become hallmarks of his work in Bill Evans' groups are already present in this piano trio setting.
