The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath
Screw all this Ouija Board nonsense; this is a solid return to form for a band I started to lose faith in after Amputechture.
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Hail to the Thief didn’t really do much for me, and I wasn’t a fan of Thom Yorke’s solo album, but this… WOW! And to all the people who asked me “Who’s going to buy a CD that’s available online for free?” Answer: Tons o’ motherfuckers. In your face, haters.
Knocked Up DVD
Every time I hear Jonah Hill say to Seth Rogen “She licka the way you dic tast,” an angel gets its wings. “Is that Ben’s rabbi? The one that cuts the penis?” No, I think its Matisyahu.” Priceless.
Comedy Death Ray - various artists
As a budding comic myself, I love the wonderful comedy section here. This double disc features many of the best in the biz and even includes a shout out to our very own Mike B. BATTAGS RULES!
Paul F. Tompkins - Impersonal
The former Mr. Show cast member and Tenacious D. open mic host shows just how prodigiously talented he is on this stand up album, recorded at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in LA.

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - 100 Days, 100 Nights
Modern yet timeless soul music with the baddest rhythm section alive today.
Dirty Projectors - Rise Above
Nobody sounds like the Dirty Projectors. Polyrhythmic, hypermelodic and 4 part harmonies for days.
RF & Lili De La Mora - 11 Continents
Delicate dreamy drones suitable for breakfast or dessert.
Rush - Snakes & Arrows
You could say “Tuts is a Rush fan.” I would say, “My Rocinante sailed by night on her final flight.”
Fucking Champs - IV
Phil Manley is one of my heroes. Tim(s), you rule too. Can I borrow a Coles 4038 for a day?
Tip: More blickum in the drum monitor please. Thank you.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory DVD
Practically everyone in their 30s, including myself, grew up with this confectionary classic. What’s NOT to like about this film?
The Road Warrior DVD
Mad Max kicked ass! But this follow up truly delivers the goods! When Mel was still at least halfway sane and was driving the bad ass V-8 Interceptor.
Yellow Submarine DVD
Arguably I’d say this is the very first film I’ve ever seen and it still resonates beautifully with me. Gotta love the Blue Meanies!
Seven Samurai DVD
My personal favorite from my favorite director – Akira Kurasawa (R.I.P.). Toshiro Mifune shines in a warmth of sadness, angst and pride. One hell of a film.
Halloween (1978 Original) DVD
Sorry Mr. Zombie, but not even you can outdo (i.e. remake) this flawless horror classic. A perfect storm of story, atmosphere, music, character, scare tactics, etc. John Carpenter’s masterpiece!
Tip: Everyone has a story to tell - time for yours. Never follow the flock. Be your own leader.

Top 5 things I found at Amoeba in the past 6 months:
Lou Reed – Legendary Hearts & New Sensations
I found that unlike a lot of other Lou Reed fans I know - I actually really like his ‘80s stuff. The songs are personal, sharp, and even fun at times. Is that him dancing in the “I Love You Suzanne” video?
Meeting Morrissey In The Smiths Section - I found myself talking to a hero of mine...
Morrissey. He was in The Smiths section. Truly, a big moment for me. Giddy like a girl. I had just seen his show the night before. I introduced myself and I gave him my glowing review. He was very nice. And more chatty than I thought.
Dopestyle - Little Happy/Fools Pool
I found that I can still dig a hip-hop record. That it’s not all boring and cliche-ridden. This album is authentic, original, smart, and subversive-all the things great about hip-hop music.
Jesse Johnson - Can You Help Me
I finally found this single. The b-side “Free World” is a fantastic club record.
Prince - Planet Earth
I found that Prince can still stir things up. After last year’s “3121” album, I thought Prince was opting for the funk fun music route. But this album has great pop tracks (“The 1 U Wanna C”) and blistering guitar
work (“Guitar”). This album has one of the most unusual openings tracks of any Prince record. Great record. Wendy and Lisa even make an appearance.
Music Tip: “What? Who is the band? Already? Christ...”
