Don't panic! It is not size,
but shape that truly matters.

  • Stuff that Dreams are Made of - various artists
Two CD set of early American rural blues and country music. Amazing illustrated booklet by Richard Nevins on the insanity of collecting. Recently unearthed tracks. R. Crumb artwork. It doesn't get much better than this! Highly recommended. See what you can learn by listening to records at home.

26 sixties punk artifacts from South America. Featuring Los Sleepers, Los Sinners, the Famous Finks, Bat Boys, Los Electronicos, and many more. Chinga emo! Another fine Electro Harmonix release.
  • Boa Constrictor - Global Dominion
Recorded in Buenos Aires in 2005, Boa Constrictor have so much flavor to savor at an affordable price. It comes with a half money back guarantee in case you are not satisfied but I really doubt that is going to happen because this CD is groooooovy man! Produced by Boris Threadbare.

TENA
draws comix called bitter pie, makes noises called the deletist, organizes a global headphone festival called [:] p l u g [:], animates trash, eats paint, pees coffee, breathes smoke.

  • Rachel Portman - The Human Stain Soundtrack
Solo piano pieces in minor keys from an incredibly prolific female composer. Put on repeat during the wee hours when everything else makes your ears bleed.
  • Things Falling Apart - self-titled
Sweeping guitar and violin-based instrumentals by this hard-to-find six piece band of really nice guys from iowa. Put on repeat for carousing in the midday sun or during unexpected trysts.
  • The Dead Texan self-titled
Cinematic, reflective and instrumental electronica with sparse, well-placed samples. Put on repeat for rainy nights of engaging in slow and methodical hobbies.
  • Recon - White Album
Obsessive, pulsating and subtly dark sample mutations by one enigmatic London-based musician, a.k.a. motion on 12k records. Put on repeat for long commutes or while drunkenly brandishing power tools.
  • Khanate - self-titled
As dark as dark can get and with vibrations so relentlessly low, you'll pray. Put on repeat while splitting atoms, soldering circuits or huffing gas.

NATHAN BASKETT

  • Boris - Pink
  • Ween - Shinola Vol. 1
  • PROG is Not a Four Letter Word - various artists
  • Caribou - Mariano DVD
  • Arrested Development - Season Two DVD
KELLY SWEENEY
a.k.a. PBK
  • BORIS - Pink
Kind of like a dessert with a dangerous name, PINK is a monster of rock that could have been properly called "MONTEZUMA'S REVENGE" or "THE BLADE" or "DEATH by BORIS" for all
its delightful, stomach-turning intensity. Listening to this will change the way you pronounce the word 'awesome' .
  • Thanksgiving - self-titled
Ever put feathers in the spokes of your bicycle wheels? when you ride it sounds like wings flapping. Do you like riding your bike around just before the clouds break? Have you ever clapped in time to the sound of rain on the roof or windows? How do you feel about acoustic guitar? How about drums? Are you for 'em? Do you keep a journal? Does pretty vinyl turn you on?
  • Tujiko Noriko - 28, Blurred in My Mirror, Melancholic Beat
Miss Tujiko has been busy. Three new releases, each one as precious as the diamond-like coo of Noriko's voice. Ever compared to Bjork, her smart collaborations and electric/organic white magic shine on 28, drift through eerie darkness on Blurred... and take on new identities on Melancholic Beat.
  • Karl Blau - Beneath Waves
"Sandy skin tangled in the kelp lines..." Heartwarming, home-recording, multiinstrument barefoot jams. Like homemade blueberry muffins, fresh out the oven with a little bit of summer baked in. Please play in cafes overrun with old books, old smokers, and crooked wood.
  • Sparks - Hello Young Lovers
Evil and catchy little rock operettas to annihilate your stage fright and release the karaoke superstar within. G'on let them invade your country, baby!
  • Buffalo Daughter - Euphorica
Worth the wait in greatness and worth its weight in funk. From Rick Wakeman-esque deep space to Planet Claire where everybody is a star. War, conflict, peace, yeah? Dance.
  • The Hands and Minds of Studio Ghibli
I cannot express how much I have taken from these films. We are lucky to have access to such wonderful creations. Terribly delightful and terrifically valuable, I recommend 'Howl's Moving Castle' or 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind' for those who prefer English language versions. Otherwise I suggest 'Whisper of the Heart' for those who struggle with their own creativity, 'My Neighbor Totoro' to ease hearts familiar with loss and too much concrete, 'Spirited Away' for cathartic relief (do not watch this in english if you can help it), and finally, before I recommend everything they've ever done (and I do), I suggest viewing 'Grave of the Fireflies' in general as it is up there among the most important films about war ever made.

musical query/quest: When is 826 Valencia gonna release some heckahecka tight sea shanties on us scallywags? not loose, not loose, not loose...

NERO
Erotic terrorist/dark lover

  • Kate Bush - Aerial
It took forever for this album to be released. But it was well worth it. Kate gives us another beautiful, sexy, arty, tender, and dramatic record. Kate is a goddess. On this record, Kate manages to tackle love, the dishes, the laundry and PI.
  • Sam Cooke - One Night Stand (Live at the Harlem Square Club)
Excellent reissue/remaster. Sounds and feels like you’re in the front row. Sam courts, works, and kills the crowd. I believe Sam is the greatest R&B singer ever. This album is my best argument.
  • Paul Weller - As Is Now
I went to go see Mr.Weller at the Warfield a few months ago. It was an amazing experience. He played mostly material from this latest record. At one point I thought “Come On” was a jam song.
  • The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill DVD
I visit these birds, hang out with them, feed them, etc. This documentary is a great nature flick, love story, tale of longing and slice of San Francisco. My blue crowned conure (“kermit”) digs this movie too. Gets him all hot and bothered.
