WYATT CLEARANCE GURU
THE BIG CAHAUNA
Moved to Bay Area 13 years ago. Playing Hardcore Punk for the past 10 years. Now play in Born/Dead & Scurvy dogs
- Desolation -self-titled LP
These boys have been playing around about 4 years now.And deliver a crushing sound with melodic guitar, driving bass and bludgeoning drums that'll kick your ASS! And the cover was done by Sugi (for all you collector nerds out there). On Prank Records
- Guided Cradle - self-titled LP
Coming from Prague, Czech this record is brutal rippingness that tears out your spine and beats you nearly to death. While you're laying on the ground, they pour out some
beer to remember the lost comrades. On Damage Done Records
- Stormcrow - Enslaved in Darkness LP
Local Metal Masters, these guys do it right with a sound from IVth Crusade (Bolthrower) this record is definitely worth the crust, Grime and Dirt. Slicing Guitar, Grinding Bass, and Fully Growling Vocals, Pounded out by Crushing Drums. On No Options Record
- Strung Up -Warfucked 7"
Local Hardcore Heroes come at you with 5 tracks of pure Punk Pleasure. This is a must have to make your collection complete. Staring with the title track, 'War Fucked', takes you on an exciting ride to the last song 'Rock'n'Roll in the Toilet Bowl'. On No Option Records.
- Bury the Living - All the News that's Fit to Scream LP
Hard hitters from Memphis,Tenn. come at you with an old school midwest hardcore sound, taking it to Boston sometime in 1981. Pick up this gem! On Prank Records
Tip: Checkout these slabs of wax or get left behind.

- Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
- Thomas Quasthoff & Daniel Barenboim; Performing Schabert's Winterreise DVD
AMAZING
- Calexico and Iron and Wine
The "two-buck chuck" of indie-folksouthwest-rock
- John Coltrane - Live at the Half-note
SEAN SMITH
- Witchcraft - Firewood
The Swedish masters of pentagram style doom are back and have outdone themselves. Managing to keep it super heavy without screaming or growling or laying on cheap distortion and along with impressive musicianship they, dare I say it, supercede their predecessors.
- Listening to Richard Brautigan
First time on CD since it's original release on Harvest. Brautigan recites his poetry and excerpts from his novels in an unassuming quirky voice with extremely delicate inflection. This man had a love affair with the shadows of detail and a humor in pathos. - Paul Metzger - Three Improvisations on Modified Banjo
So, this guy who used to be in some weird rock bands quits music, hides out for fifteen years, and comes back with recordings of highly affluent banjo improvisations. Let go of everything you have ever known about composition. And you can most definitely smoke dope to this.
- Imaginational Anthem -various artists
This anthology of solo guitarists brings together popular players like John Fahey, Sandy Bull, and Kaki King with underground gems like Jack Rose, Glenn Jones and Harris Newman all alongside obscurities like Harry Taussig, Steve Mann, Mas Ochs, and Suni McGrath. It scratches the itch if you like that stuff.
- Fonotone Records 1956-1969 -various artists
Joe Bussard, along with owning the largest and nicest collection of old time 78's record label, he and his friends kept the mystery of old time Americana alive by recording some of the most well-informed but rough around the edges music. Five CD's - incredibly charming.

- Muse - Origin of Symmetry
This amazing Brit-pop band brings America their 1st album that we never got… those bastards. A really catchy rock album with lots of hooks and a Thom Yorky-esque singer who can belt it out!
- Red Sparowes/Gregor Samsa (LP split) - self-titled
This post-rockish Orchestral sound has really made a special place in my music collection… reserved for things like making art projects and driving somewhere you've never been to. I know there is a lot of bird-bands but, seriously these guys are it!
- Dungen - Stadsvandringar
Remember the first time you heard a band in your dads record collection you liked…this is like that but theses Swedes add that special 1960's fabled "jazz flute"… Yeah Anchorman was funny…. complete with flames and all.
- Des Ark - Loose Lips Sink Ships
2 piece band : one part ex-mile marker drummer, 1 part P.J. Harvey-esque femme guitar/vocals not to be confused with Le tigre this gal can really make a rocking full sound with two people catchy as all hell!
- Magnet - Tourniquet
A super new album from that boy overseas, available as an import, but the U.S. will soon have their own in February. This is another great record. Singer/songwriter Even Johansen has a sound a la Radiohead mixed with slide guitar & folks will love it's magic goodness - it's beautiful, sad bastard music.
Tip: My Bloody Valentine was so good… whatever happened to them???
JIM KAISER

- Festival Genialer Dilletanten - 2LP+CD+DVD - various artists
Multi-format documentation of the 1981 concert of non-musicians in Berlin organized by Herr Blixa, mindblowingly packaged and a great document to go with the Berlin Super Eighties set.
- Irreplaceable Hand - various artists
A Benefit for Dax Pierson-cd; the Bay Areas finest weird music makers and the addition of an exclusive Nurse with Wound track put it over the top. And all proceeds go to Dax's recovery fund.Welcome back, Dax!!
- Sigur Ros - Hoppipollg 12"
Finally some vinyl from the last disc! Two cuts from that plus one new recording of a piece done at the last show at the Paramount.
- Boris with Merzbow - Sun Baked Snow Cave CD
Who knew to expect beauty from this 4 headed monster? One 62 minute piece that evolves from quietly picked guitar through growing feedback walls and ending as serenely as it began. Cyclic and lush. How long until we have Pink though?!
- Einsturende Neubuten - Liebeslieder DVD
Yeah, it's a reissue of an old VHS, but it's such the better format.
Tip: Tough year, 2005…Dax, Steve, Katrina victims. At least I'm thankful that my friends are all alive and recovering.

- Eli Jacobs Fantauzzi - Inventos DVD
Super-dope documentary from Berkeleybred director covering HIPHOP in Cuba. The U.S. blockade and lack of resources only make it that much more amazing. HIPHOP LIVES!
- Ras K'Dee - Street Prison
If Michael Franti & Spearhead visited a Native Reservation and got jumped by Dead Prez, you might end up with this album by Bay Area emcee Ras K'Dee. Beautifully eclectic with a strong message, "Street Prison" bangs!
- Kirb and Chris - N!*#@Z and White Girlz
Just when you thought you couldn't sip your Henny and go dumb to the Cure, former Kemetic Suns Kirby Dominant and Chris Sinister prove you wrong with this CD. Mixing bay rhymes with 80's new wave classics, the two tackle the album's taboo title in comedic fashion. One of the funniest and most unique releases this year.
- Bucho - Omit the Harsh
One of Sacramento's best kept secrets, the band digs deep for "Omit the Harsh" and brings the heat with sounds reminiscent of Sublime, O-Maya and some of the Okayplayers. They also got a nice emcee on one of the cuts. Man, who is that guy.
- J.Period - The Best of Lauryn Hill mixtape Vol. 1 & 2
Over 80 tracks ranging from rare Fugee remixes to L. Boogie doing "Redemption Song" live in Jamaica. A must have for fans and newbies alike.
