When listening to "Z", it doesn't take long to notice that the band has really lightened up on this, their fourth record.  The burdening intensity, which worked well on their prior efforts, has been usurped.  Now, a stronger emphasis on design and atmosphere drive the album beneath frontman Jim James' deep, controlling voice.
