Every good band figures out a way to redefine themselves... without betraying who they are. This album is a redefinition; thus, Belle & Sebastian are a great band. It's simple math. While continuing to write clever, intrinsic songs... the Scottish indie act has now added an upbeat, '70s rock (almost glam) feel to their music. - JD
It took me from 1999 to 2005 to let this band rise out of the background of everyday life and into my consciousness, and when they did, it felt natural. Of course, I missed a couple of albums along the way, but this caught me up right quick. Not really the fey popsters so much anymore, but in its place is sassy, sunshiny pop with an "attitude." – Devon Williams
