The O'Jays
As far as Philly soul is concerned, the only group to really give The Spinners a run for their money was an Ohio-based act known as The O’Jays. One of the most popular acts of the 1970s, The O’Jays—led by Eddie Levert’s gritty, soulfully scratchy baritone—scored one huge hit after another in their ’70s heyday.
