Patrick Carney - Biography

In 2001, drummer Patrick Carney founded the Black Keys with his longtime friend, guitarist and frontman Dan Auerbach. The pair released their debut album, The Big Come Up, just under a year later. 2003's Thickfreakness was the band's first album for Fat Possum and in 2004 the band's followup, Rubber Factory, marked their first entry into the Billboard 200. The band performed at Amoeba Hollywood in September 2006 for the release of Magic Potion, their debut album for Nonesuch Records, and they followed that with, Attack & Release (Nonesuch, 2008), which was produced by Danger Mouse. 2010 saw the release of Brothers, their most commercially successful album to date. It was certified platinum in the U.S., won three GRAMMY Awards (and was nominated for two others), and was included on many of the year's Best Of lists, including Rolling Stone, Spin, and Time. Their seventh studio album, El Camino (Nonesuch, 2011), was also produced by Danger Mouse and included the song "Lonely Boy," which became one of the band's most successful singles. They embarked on their first headlining arena tour in support of El Camino and won 3 GRAMMY Awards for Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song for "Lonely Boy."

In addition to his work with the Black Keys, Carney has also produced albums by Tennis and the Sheepdogs. He took over as drummer for The Rentals on their 2014 album Lost in Alphaville. That same year, Carney composed the theme to the Netflix original series Bojack Horseman and the Black Keys released their eighth studio album, Turn Blue, via Nonesuch Records. The album was their fourth collaboration with Danger Mouse and was the band's first number one record in the U.S.
