Between The Buried & Me - Biography

Between the Buried and Me are a progressive metal band from Raleigh, North Carolina. They have released six studio albums in addition to a cover album and live DVD. The band has undergone lineup changes and is currently comprised of vocalist Tommy Rogers, guitarists Paul Waggoner and Dustie Waring, bassist Dan Briggs, and drummer Blake Richardson.

Between the Buried and Me was founded in 2000 by Rogers and Waggoner, along with Will Goodyear (drums), Nick Fletcher (guitar), and Jason King (bass). Their first release was a three-song demo, whose songs - "Use of a Weapon," "What We Have Become," and "More of Myself to Kill" - would eventually be included on their 2002 self-titled debut album (Lifeforce Records). In 2003, BTBAM signed with Chicago hardcore powerhouse Victory Records and released their sophomore album, The Silent Circus, which showcased a fusion of the group's math rock, heavy metal, and post-hardcore influences.

Following the release of The Silent Circus, the band went through numerous changes before ultimately settling on their final lineup for their third album, Alaska (Victory Records, 2005). Their next album was a collection of covers called The Anatomy Of (Victory Records, 2006), which included songs by Metallica, Pink Floyd, Pantera, Counting Crows, Soundgarden and Queen. In 2007, BTBAM released their fourth studio album, Colors (Victory Records), followed by 2009's The Great Misdirect (Victory Records).

The band moved to Metal Blade Records in early 2011, quickly releasing The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues EP. The EP introduced the idea of a concept album and its two main characters, Prospect I and Prospect II. BTBAM continued the storyline with their next full-length album, The Parallax II: Future Sequence (Metal Blade, 2012). In the Fall of 2013, BTBAM embarked on a headlining tour in which they played The Parallax II in its entirety. Those performances no doubt influenced their nomination for Best Live Act of 2013 by the Loudwire Music Awards. BTBAM is touring North America with Deafheaven throughout Spring of 2014.
