James Pants - Biography

James Pants is an avant-pop multi-instrumentalist, beatmaker and singer, originally hailing from Spokane, Washington. Pants, a one-man phenomenon, dubbed his style "fresh beat," with influences from early '80s soul, electro boogie, rap, synth and post-punk disco.

Pants was discovered in Austin, Texas by Stones Throw Records founder Peanut Butter Wolf. Pants left his high school prom (with his date in tow) to meet PBW at a show. He took PBW record shopping around town and the two became fast friends, with PBW later becoming his mentor. From that point on, Pants interned at the Stones Throw offices. Stones Throw released two James Pants 12"s in 2007, Kash and We're Through, and then in 2008, his debut electro-funk album, Welcome. His second album, Seven Seals (Stones Throw, 2009), was a tribute to his beloved ’70s cult and New Age records and his third, self-titled, space-age influenced album followed in May 2011. Pants currently resides in Germany, where he makes music and works as a studio engineer.
