MS MR - Biography
MS MR (pronounced Miss Mister) is a pop duo from New York consisting of vocalist Lizzy Plapinger and producer Max Hershenow. The two first met while attending Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. After graduating college, Max and Lizzy reconnected in New York City where Hershenow was waiting tables while studying at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, and Plapinger was running the record label she co-founded, Neon Gold Records. Max was interested in producing and reached out to Lizzy to see if she had any artists on her roster she could suggest. She sent him a song and they began working together on music together immediately.
MS MR released their debut single, "Hurricane," in early 2012, and it went to number one on Hype Machine. Later that year, American fashion designer Tom Ford used the song in a runway show. Soon after, their song "Bones" was used to score a trailer for the television show Game of Thrones. The duo released the Candy Bar Creep Show EP in September 2012 on Tumblr, alongside artwork, remixes and videos, initially without revealing their identities. In 2012, the duo toured with Marina and the Diamonds and Grouplove.
MS MR released their debut full-length album, Seconhand Rapture, on May 14, 2013 on Columbia Records, which includes both "Hurricane" and "Bones." 2013 has been a busy year for the duo, including touring with CSS and festival dates at Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Leeds, and Reading. They are embarking on a headining tour in the US in October and Europe in November.
