Signs & Signifiers (CD)
JD McPherson
Amoeba Review
Thomas Germain, Hollywood 01/25/2013
It's difficult to pull off straight throwback music, but JD McPhearson's mix of R&B, Blues and Rockabilly seems to have done it. He sounds like he just stepped out of the '40s or '50s, and you could be forgiven for mistaking his stuff for music that's actually from that period. His stuff has an undeniably appealing quality similar to artist like Chuck Berry and Howlin' Wolf.

A work that will satisfy American rock 'n roll and R&B purists while still exhibiting McPherson’s rarefied gift for mixing and matching disparate stylistic shapes and textures.
