Gold Fields
Amoeba Review
02/25/2013
Hot new tribal electro-pop mess from this young & fierce Aussie quintet! From Tame Impala to the Sleepy Jackson to Flight of the Conchords, the land down under has been exporting quite a bit of quirky psych-pop this century, and Gold Fields are definitely ready to grab the baton. This is a radio ready, Foster the People-level pop explosion, dripping with youth and fire, but buoyed by an unexpected barrage of Adam Ant / Bow Wow Wow style Burundi beat tribal percussion. The hooks and harmonies are huge, and the vocals are truly uninhibited, but that ever-present percussive onslaught really makes these tracks burn. The singles are already hot (especially the irresistible "Meet My Friends"), and the album is ready to conquer. Run through the fields!
