Water Liars
Amoeba Review
03/05/2013
The vast, dry spaces of the northern prairie stretch gloriously forth in the new one from the Water Liars, aka singer-guitarist Justin Kunkel-Schuster and singer-drummer Andrew Bryant. Somewhere between Justin's high, arcing vocals and the thoughtful, meditative thumping of Andrew's kit lie an unexplored badland of stories and spaces. Their gorgeous first single "Linens" is pretty hard to top for sensitive, harmonious, heartbreaking songcraft, but they try pretty hard to match it on tracks like the gentle acoustic "How Will I Call You" and the anthemic, U2-channeling "Wyoming", not to mention the soulful, arpeggiated "Cut A Line". The Water Liars may lie, but they'll quench your musical thirst.
