The Living Infinite (CD)
Soilwork
Amoeba Review
03/05/2013
Swedish metal masters Soilwork are back with their ninth and most crushing release yet. Prog-metal fans had cause for doubt, what with the switch from longtime axeman Peter Wichers to David Andersson, and following as it does open their undisputed masterwork The Panic Broadcast. But lay aside fear and trepidation, this is pure theatrical screamo metal insanity, replete with magisterial drum and guitar work and soaring choruses, any one of which could carry a Broadway production. Tough and crazy as these songs are, the band maintains tension and intensity throughout the course of a double album, veering from symphonic hymns to blasting face-obliterators on a dime. Not too many bands could make something with the vitality and heaviosity to live up to a title like The Living Infinite, but Soilwork will take you there.
