Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays, Vol. 1 (CD)
The Polyphonic Spree
Amoeba Review
10/22/2012
Tim DeLaughter's expansive acid-pop choir clearly loves the holidays -- their epic Christmas shows are legendary feats of wonder and freakdom. This is their first full-length collection since '07's The Fragile Army, and though it's a Christmas album, the tunes and carols are so transformed and tripped-out as to provide neutron lovebeams of psychedelic sound for the enlightened listener all year round. You can just imagine the phased-out voyages they spin with "Silver Bells," "Winter Wonderland" and "Do You Hear What I Hear?," as well as John & Yoko's classic "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" and a few choice yuletide originals. Don your evergreen and set up your solstice pyramid now, this is the perfect soundtrack for the midwinter revels!
