Halo, that holy messiah of first-person shooter games, that one true cross upon which the gamer may ascend into overkill nirvana, is finally moving away from its creator, Bungie, and with it, away from esteemed music supervisor Martin O'Donnell, who so elevated its atmosphere with his sparse but intense, cerebral musical accompaniment. Fortunately, its newest and most anticipated incarnation, Halo 4, has found a worthy composer to succeed the console -- Massive Attack's Neil Davidge, a Halo junkie himself who has wielded the cutting edge of emotionally intense electronica for many years. As always with Halo, the music adds so much to the intensity of the game, and Davidge's dark, sweeping score, conducted by Matt Dunkley (Dark Knight, Inception, Black Swan) is truly a pulse-pounding thrill one may kill by. From this Halo you may never return!
