Kool Keith still has a lot of anger. Fine. We get it. His 2000 release, Matthew, doesn't do much to differentiate itself from other Kool Keith releases—the bare bones music is still bare bones and the vocal delivery is still spiteful, paranoid, and occasionally self-aware in peculiar ways. “Extravagant Traveler” is one of these strange “autobiographical” tracks, documenting a baller’s trip from “ . . . Puerto Rico out to Africa . . . ” but still makes mention of Section 8, just to keep it real (?). Clearly, Kool Keith is still taking issue with who and what he considers real and masculine and has no qualms about sharing these thoughts on “F-U M.F.” The three short skits on Matthew make for an uneven album, but they do provide a relief from the rest of the monotony.
