Main Offender (CD)
Keith Richards
Amoeba Review
04/29/2013
The Stones really fell apart in the 80s and early 90s. Mick was intent on pursuing a solo career; Keef was contemptuous, and finally went solo on his own. To exacerbate matters, Mick’s records were slick, trendy, techno-pop wallows, naked lunges for mainstream fame and kudos; yet his records were received with lukewarm indifference. Meanwhile, Keef stuck to his guns, and made the sort of solo record that his fans wished the Stones could make: raw, simple, straightforward, gutsy, bluesy, basic rock ‘n’ roll. The critics called Main Offender one of the best Stones records in ages. Mick saw the handwriting on the wall, and got back to focusing on the band.
