Opting for simplicity and subversiveness over the superfluous and commercially crafted, local producer/practitioner of sounds “weird and sobering” [WFMU] the Deletist [a.k.a. Bitter Pie] combines bittersweet analogue melodies with stripped down electronic minimalism. Best described as "dark, haunting lullabies" [Mission Creek Music Festival].
A three year span of working, collaborating and touring with artists and engineers throughout the UK and the US comprises Relive, the Deletist’s newest limited edition CD, marking the artist’s 13th autonomous release since 1999. Relive’s 18 tracks compile recording sessions from an old farm house on the outskirts of riot-torn Bradford, England, to an intense six week collaboration with London-based sound artist Motion [12K FatCat], then to New York's East Harlem with Alex Young [Luscious Jackson Grand Royal], to Chicago's Engine Music Studios, courtesy of the admirable Colin Studybaker [Engineer for Iron & Wine], and finally returning to San Francisco's Mission District, thanks to Filthmilk and Skullcaster’s benevolence.
Upon returning from a successful European tour in 2004, Deletist began independently organizing over 48 local experimental sound artists for San Francisco’s debut transmission of [:] p l u g [:] a global headphone festival. Now in its 3rd year, [:] p l u g [:] streams live local performances to people listening on headphones around the world in participation with the annual Paris-based LePlacard International Headphone Festival.
Recent releases include the limited edition 12” vinyl compilation Appliance 4 [Appliance Records, Japan] featuring Motion/Deletist collaborations alongside Vidna Obmana, Andrew Lilles, Janek Schaefer, Ringo Christ, Small Rocks and more.
Upcoming releases include Clones - the complete Motion/Deletist collaborative recordings [12K], a CD/DVD benefit compilation The Alice Project [Connecta, Germany] with artists such as Asian Dub Foundation, Penny Rimbaud [Crass], Chumbawumba, Coil, DJ Spooky, Bill Laswel, Telephone Jim Jesus [Anitcon] and many more. In 2008, two independent films The True Meaning [DreamsOnFrames] and Bussing 39 [HornerFilm] will be released, featuring selected tracks from the Deletist's new album.
Currently booking 2007 tour dates to Portland, Seattle, Chicago, New York and then on to Iceland, UK and Belgium.
