Celebrating the release of their second full length recording, Midnight Movies brought their brand of spook driven, stoic style to the Amoeba stage.
The guitars were swirling, vaguely psychedelic slashes of sound, recalling two wind chimes smashing together in an effort to find some release from the propulsive nature of the music- a throbbing, forward lurching pop that recalls  the Velvet Underground and Sterolab, accomplishing the enviable task of not sounding a bit like either group.

The lead vocalist Gena - a rake thin, statuesque female beauty with bangs, suggested the ice cold delivery of Nico had she less time to take junk- more precise and grounded to the world around her. As she switched over to drums, the drummer stepped up front and played a bit of flute, adding to the mysticism the band  seemed eager to mine as they stood there, laconic and removed.

The crowd was excited and supportive, revealing a bright future for Midnight Movies and their brand on insistent, pulsating music.
