The Best Day Ever album has received widespread critical acclaim with pundits noting that its rock 'n roll undercurrents make it as enjoyable for rock-savvy adults as it is for kids. Guest artists on the album include Brian Wilson of Beach Boys fame, The Ramones' own Tommy Ramone as well NRBQ and studio stalwarts including legendary Elvis Presley band guitarist James Burton, sax man Nino Tempo, harmonica icon Tommy Morgan, jazz harpist Corky Hale and many others.
Reviews have nicknamed the album "Wet Sounds" in recognition of Brian Wilson's participation and the fact that the musical ambience of some of the tracks reflects the influence of The Beach Boys' masterpiece "Pet Sounds." Tracks on the album reflect a diversity of additional influences including garage rock, classic country and even Weimar-era cabaret.
Entertainment Weekly noted of Kenny and Paley's efforts on the SpongeBob & The Hi-Seas’ Best Day Ever album, "Together, they've created a collection that's ostensibly for kids but may mean the most to the kind of rock cultists who slavishly read liner notes and pore over Goldmine magazine every month."
The album has gotten endorsements from such rock luminaries as Mike Stoller (co-composer of "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock"), Lenny Kaye of The Patti Smith Group and Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons who commented "Not only do my kids love the SpongeBob Best Day Ever album...but I'm crazy about it too! These are quality pop songs...a very rare thing these days."
Little Steven (Van Zandt) wrote of the album in Billboard "If you have kids, or live in a state of permanent arrested development like me, or occasionally like to smoke those funny cigarettes, you're going to love this." He also recently named "Ridin' The Hook," from the album, as the "#1 Coolest Song In The World" on his website and gave it extensive play on his Sirius Radio Underground Garage channel.
Launched in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as an international pop culture phenomenon and the most-watched children’s animated television series in history, with more than 60 million viewers tuning in to the series each month. SpongeBob SquarePants chronicles the nautical adventures of SpongeBob, a square yellow sea sponge and his undersea friends. An incurably optimistic and earnest sponge, SpongeBob looks at life in an unconventional way, instead of taking the logical approach to everyday challenges
