On the tenuous fringes of ‘rap’ there lies the LA maverick, Busdriver. Who for years has been wowing unsuspecting audiences with his patented visceral onslaught of rants, rhyming and displaced musical sensibility. Whether sitting-in with unlikely cohorts such as; Islands, Daedelus, Z-Trip, TTC, Boom-Bip, 2mex etc., or plowing through his enthralling solo sets, there is a distinct brand of showmanship employed and at least a handful of concert-goers who are maladjusted enough to submit to the shear unadulterated thrill ensued.
Unrelenting touring and the willingness to embrace the transient nature of the road gives way to the title of his 5th solo album and Anti/Epitaph debut, RoadKillOvercoat, arguably BD’s most ambitious yet infectiously catchy effort to date. While Busdriver is definitely a hip-hop artist, known for collaborations with artists like Dedalus, and releases on labels like Mush and Big Dada/Ninja Tune, on his Epitaph/ANTI- debut /RoadKillOvercoat/ he delivers synth laden, post-techno hooks and indie-pop moves provided by underground heroes, Boom Bip and DJ Nobody.
From touring with indie folk-rock heroes Coco Rosie to wowing audiences on the fickle independent dance music (IDM) circuit, Busdriver is exploring beyond the narrow boundaries of any one “scene.” On "RoadKillOvercoat" he strings together pop-culture reference points, cryptic wordplay and gallant wit, with a wide musical palette of pop grandeur, psychedelic hip-hop and minimal beats, capturing new listeners with his most undeniably catchy release yet.
