In A Bordertown Cathedral / A Wo-Man's In-Tu-It-Ion

Ed Townsend

Amoeba Review

07/06/2013

Long before he co-wrote "Let's Get It On" with Marvin Gaye, Ed Townsend was a pop/R&B balladeer in the Nat "King" Cole mold. His 1958 single "In A Bordertown Cathedral" is a lightly orchestrated romantic ballad with a mambo beat featuring a backing vocal chorus. On the flip side is an ersatz calypso ditty concerning the foibles of gender relations.
