Amoeba Review

Joanna Ricco 05/26/2010

L7 gets even sleazier on 1994’s Hungry For Stink, and the evolution into their unique blend of punk, metal, and (quite frankly) grunge makes for a fantastically messy, gritty collection. Vocally, the album holds tension like no other, taking the time to slow down and grow menacing in a way that earlier releases—namely 1992’s breakthrough, Bricks Are Heavy—seemed to rush through. Epitomizing what should be the Al’s Bar sound, the opening track “Andres” is plenty obnoxious, but endearing at the same time—the choral refrain only emphasizes the confidence of L7 at that moment when grunge was in full nasty bloom. There is one thing this album is without, though, and that would be let up. Read More
