Echoing out of a Northern England that time forgot, Rachel and Becky Unthanks spin angelic harmonies into wondrous ballads of doomed lovers and drowned sailors, borne aloft on Baroque chamber-music arrangements. Surprisingly captivating even on unbelievably long songs, the Unthank sisters weave a magic spell that has fans like Elvis Costello and Radiohead proclaiming them "supernatural." If you dig Fairport Convention and other trad UK folk, as well as modern stuff like Joanna Newsom and the Watson Twins, you'll likely succumb to the siren song of the Unthanks sisters' hypnotic tales.
