Harvest Moon (CD)
Neil Young
Amoeba Review
11/21/2012
Harvest Moon is the twenty-fourth solo album from Neil Young; it was recorded from September of 1991 through February of 1992, and released by Reprise in November of 1992. Throughout 1990 and 1991, Young reassembled his legendary band, the hard-rock avatars Crazy Horse, and with blistering levels of volume, he reasserted his supremacy as the Godfather of Grunge. He also gave himself tinnitus. Spent, he retreated to the studio, and an earlier, gentler performance idiom. Harvest Moon is a sequel to his landmark 1971 LP Harvest, replete in gentle country-and-folk-tinted strains. Many of the guest artists from the original sessions appear here as well, including James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt; there is even a brief arrangement of strings by Jack Nitzsche.
