Hardin on piano. It also introduced Parsons’ soul mate, collaborator Emmy Lou Harris. Consisting of everything from country soul ballads to raucous honky tonk, this album showcases Parsons at his strongest and seemingly most focused. “A Song For You” is one of the few songs written solely by Parsons, his voice is sweet, warm and heartfelt accompanied by Emmy Lou Harris’ achingly beautiful harmonies. Though similar in style to Parsons’ band The Flying Burrito Brothers, GP is a bit more traditional in feel with honky tonk jukebox tunes like “That’s All It Took” and “We’ll Sweep Out the Ashes in the Morning.” GP remains strong years after its release and is a must have for fans of The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons and The Byrds.
