Get Up! is delightfully raw, starting with the true blues of “Don’t Look Twice,” which highlights some distorted harmonica playing by White and Harper’s amiable, smooth delivery. Fans of Harper and heavy blues rockers like The Black Keys will thrill to the stone-cold cool of “I’m In I’m Out and I’m Gone” as well as the nasty “Blood Side Out,” but they’re steeped in enough blues tradition to please more traditional fans or those who may be drawn to the project more for White’s inclusion. No pop beats or anything here — just two musicians going toe-to-toe on some of the sickest blues around.
