Holograms

Amoeba Review

09/02/2013

Holograms’ debut record was a great racket of Swedish noise, and thankfully the band doesn’t tidy things too much for its second record on Captured Tracks. Whereas the band’s youthful sound was grabbing, if a little green on their debut, songs like “Flesh and Bone” are assured post-punk anthems. While they bear some resemblance to their Danish brethren in Iceage, they’re more melodically inclined than that band—“Meditations” plays like a more ferocious Echo & the Bunnymen, with crashing guitars and eerie synths laying the groundwork for singer Andreas Lagerström’s howls. “I’m so tired” goes the refrain of the tenuous “Ättestupa,” but judging by the care they’ve put into their second album, Holograms are just getting started.
