Elegancia Tropical is not the immediate bang that their previous release, Blow Up, had when it was released back in 2009. Rather, Elegancia Tropical is a slow burn that starts to win you over after a few listens. In some ways, I prefer this over Blow Up, as it seems like Bomba Estereo's songwriting is fully realized. Their trademark Cumbia-dub explorations are still a big part of the sound, now enhanced with African and Afro-Colombian influences. More singing and less of the ragamuffin vocals works well for them too.
