Amoeba Music has purchased a spectacular collection of very sought-after Japanese "mini-LP sleeve" compact discs. This collection was meticulously assembled over time by a prominent music industry executive, and contains many extremely limited editions of less than 50 made, and many titles long out of print! The collection includes the best of Rock, Psych, Prog, Jazz, Country, Folk, Oldies, and Vocals.

A "mini-LP sleeve" is a CD version of something that was originally released as a vinyl LP. The CDs reproduce exactly the original packaging of the first vinyl release, including inner sleeves, posters, inserts and outer stickers. They are often referred to as "cardboard sleeves" and "paper sleeves", as they are made exclusively from high-quality paper or cardboard, often replicating the texture of the original LP cover, all in scaled-down CD size!

All of these CDs contain the "obi" strip, a Japanese-language external paper strip with information about sound quality, extra tracks and the materials within. (In Japan, "obi" means "belt", usually on a kimono). Many of the CDs in this collection contain a highly collectible, promotional-only obi strip that replicates the original obi strip on the original Japanese LP release!

Often, these mini-lp sleeve CDs have new, exclusive remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, SHM and/or HDCD), and can often be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere on many of the titles.

Included in the collection are scores of very limited edition, promotional-only and record label out of print slip-case style boxes, which house the collections of cds by individual artists. These boxes are manufactured in extremely small editions.
