Cape Dory (CD)
Tennis
Amoeba Review
01/18/2011
Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore are Tennis, and they allegedly discovered their mutual songwriting knack and love for classic girl-group sounds on a yachting adventure through the Atlantic, culminating in their wedding aboard their sloop, the you-guessed-it, Cape Dory. Potentially mythical elements of this backstory aside, these are great minimal, shimmery, pounding, and classic-sounding pop songs, with fuzzy riffs and lyrics obsessed equally with love and the sea. They sound a bit like Best Coast but more shamelessly retro at times (think Linda Rondstadt, Bonnie Tyler, and Leslie Gore), but when Alaina belts it out, you won't be able to think of anyone else. Tennis anyone?
