This is an important film in many respects. The film engages the horrors and atrocities in the Holocaust through the eyes of the Nazi propaganda machine. At the same time, it asks us to contemplate how we come to understand this violence through the eyes of the survivors, the victims of this atrocity. Michael Berenbaum, a professor of Jewish Studies at the American Jewish University, is interviewed for the special features of the film. Prof. Berenbaum says, “every time you see a Holocaust film, you have to ask yourself: what does this add to what we already knew? This [film] tells a story about a ghetto. With the voices of survivors, the diarist, the eyewitnesses, with the voices of Cherniakov, but also with the voices of the perpetrators, so we understand where they came from and how they came to take this film.”  – RPG, Berkeley
