Known for their work with Prince in his classic ‘80s lineup The Revolution, Wendy & Lisa are musically adept innovators who defiantly set their own course, much like the Purple One himself. Having to fight off the usual stereotypes about the girl in the band only made them that much more sneering and aggressive in the ‘80s, since they can play and write better than the usual guy in the band, and contributed quite a bit to Prince’s atmospheric glam-funk sound. Their usual gig nowadays is soundtrack and TV work, but they’ve blessed us with a little musical offering that reminds us of all the grandness of their past work. The title is a line from Joni Mitchell’s Hejira, and this album runs the gamut from lovely ambient balladry to orchestral pop-funk to the occasional electro glam stomp, wherever their mood and the songs take them. As with everything they do and love, it’s intense, complex and sonically rich. Let Wendy & Lisa take you to their world!
