From the batch of bands that made up the ’90s Alternative Nation, one wouldn’t have necessarily expected Nada Surf to be one of the few still standing. But they continue to prove themselves adept at spinning out catchy, beatific pop-rock gems on The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy. Songs like “The Moon Is Calling” benefit from more uptempo rhythms and light electronic touches than seen on their most recent releases, putting the icing on Matthew Caws’ heart-on-sleeve vocals and propulsive guitarwork.
