Surprisingly haunting, well-written album of countrified murder ballads from (yes) Amazonian red-headed English supermodel and wife of Jack White, Karen Elson. You mightn't think this would be such a great record considering all that. But the tunes (strummed on acoustic guitar and sung in a tough American accent by Ms. Elson) are entrancing tales from the supernatural side, powered by spare, dusty musicianship from Jack on drums, guitarist Jackson Smith (son of Patti, husband of Meg) and tasteful organ and pedal steel. Kind of like if Tammy Wynette had made a Halloween album in 1961. Karen Elson shall walk again!
